Unknown Venetian author
Jerolim Cavagnin
You are standing in front of a portrait of a man who left an indispensible trace in the cultural life of Split during the second half of the 17th and the beginning of the 18th centuries, the lawyer and writer Jerolim Cavagnin (Split, circa 1640-1714).
Cavagnin’s portrait is the work of an unknown artist dating from the late 17th century. The same artist painted also a portrait of his brother Šimun, the Bishop of Trogir, which is also part of the museum's collection. Both portraits were painted using oil-on-canvas technique, and show characteristics typical of the 17th-century baroque academism.
